College Safety
We know that college life can be demanding. You’ll want a problem
free campus experience. If you are new to the campus life you will want to
familiarize yourself with the campus surroundings. Where are the
emergency phones (with blue lights) are located, etc. Remember that a good
source of information can be your Residents Life office/Student Affairs;
Hall Directors, Residents Assistants and Campus Security/Police.
Cellular Phones
1. Add the phone numbers for campus security/police emergencies and non-
emergency numbers. Add other local emergency number also.
2. Also add a home number (listed as HOME) and a emergency contact
number listed as ICE (in case of emergency).
3. Add your name to the beginning screen to aid in the return, should your
cel phone be lost.
Personal Safety
1. Visit your Campus Security/Police website to see what programs are
available.
2. Attend a Rape Aggression Defense class.
3. Don’t go out alone at night if all possible.
4. Never go with someone alone that you don’t know well.
5. When you do date. Tell a friend who you are going out with, his address,
where you are going and when you are coming back.
6. Use a Duress Code when dating. Pre-arrange a code word, example word
Chicago, and use this word while talking to a friend.
7. Have a friend call you during your date. You can use this Duress Code to
get you out of a jam.
